2022 4Runner Spy Photos Like cockroaches in a nuclear desert, the Toyota 4Runner refuses to die. It is not surprising, then, that 4Runner entered the 2022 model as the same SUV that was fundamentally more than a decade ago.
Nonetheless, Toyota continues to improve its old medium size models, and all 2022 4Runners benefit from the addition of low LED spotlights and fog lights.
Ride the Nadehade trim which is more luxurious, limited, dark in color, or TRD Pro off-road-ready trims and Japanese car manufacturers throw in LED headlights too.
Exterior lighting is far from the only change to the body on the 4Runner frame, and the box-shaped Toyota looks to utilize its off-tarmac capability through a new Trail special edition model (which has not yet been launched) that adds TRD wheels, a Yakima roof cargo basket and special coolers in the cargo room.
(Trail kits are also available on Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks.) However, those who are serious about handling the toughest off-road conditions will want to ride the most capable 4Runner trim: The TRD Pro.
Although many are already competent, TRD Pro benefits from additional off-road capabilities for 2022.
Stronger, black-painted TRD wheels work with previously available Nitto Terra Grappler tires to maximize the Fox brand shocks reworked by Pro which promises a low increase. – and high-speed off-tarmac performance.
However, until we are behind the wheel of the 20Runner TRD Pro 2022, we only need to take Toyota’s words that this revision helps make it better at doing rough things.
Regardless, the 2022 4Runner TRD Pro will look better bouncing about the road thanks to the addition of a new color: Lunar Rock.
The blue-ish hue replaced Army Green last year and is available on all other Pro 2022 TRD models, such as Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia.
2022 4Runner Spy Photos (Preview)
The Toyota 4Runner is a remnant from the past as the only medium body-on-frame SUV available in the US today.
In a sea of soft-roading crossovers, 4Runner offers toughness that class doesn’t have.
Although the design has been more than 10 years, in addition to the new special edition model, we hope the 2022 4Runner Spy Photos will reach the showroom as a carryover model.
Visually, we hope the Toyota 4Runner 2022 will join the same basic design as it has been since 2010. Of course, the front and rear ends have gone through several refreshers over the years, but most of these sturdy SUV designs remain.
The only important change is the new Trail Edition, which will add dark gray TRD Off-Road wheels and a Yakima LoadWarrior roof cargo basket.
4Runner Trail Edition will be available in Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black, or Super White.
Inside, we assume 4Runner 2022 to continue with the basic cabin design for years.
There have been several technological updates and light fixes, but the dashboard and interior design such as trucks have remained largely unchanged.
The Trail Edition mentioned above will add a 40-liter cooler and cargo tray, but the cabin will be identical to the rest of the 4Runner lineup.
Under its hood, the Toyota 4Runner 2022 is likely to continue with the same 4.0-liter V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 278 pound-foot torque.
This power will go through a five-speed automatic transmission and out to the rear wheels as standard.
Four-wheel drive will be an option because of the more robust suspension on the TRD Pro and TRD Off-Road models.
4Runner is now showing its age in IIHS safety testing with a “Marginal” score in small-overlapping tests, “Bad” light ratings, and no advanced collision avoidance features to talk about – even a forward-warning warning. We hope this simplicity does not change into the 2022 4Runner.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Limited
The Toyota 4Runner 2022 is an old school SUV. It has a body-on-frame structure, a sturdy rear axle, and greased pickup truck parts.
That gives the base SR5 model some significant off-road capability, while the TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro models take the recipe to its limits.
By 2022, the 4Runner gets standard automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitor; its infotainment system adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The 4Runner’s engine is a 4.0 liter V-6 producing 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
The seats are large and soft, and even though it’s set low, it’s a big step up into the cabin. Thanks to its weight and large tires, the 4Runner’s handling can feel heavy at slow speeds.
Ironically, TRD Off-Road can make 4Runner feel safer on the road. It can be equipped with a hydraulically actuated sway bar which reduces the slope on the curve.
The TRD Pro uses another suspension setup, Fox dual reservoir shocks and a 2.5-inch suspension lift that gives the 4Runner a luxurious ride, despite its taller stride.
The 4Runner rear-wheel drive gets 17 mpg city, 21 highway, 18 combined, while the four-wheel-drive model gets pretty much the same, at 17/20/18 mpg.
NHTSA gave 4Runner 2019 four out of five stars overall in its crash test. IIHS gave it a ‘Fine’ top? scores on many crash tests, but ‘Marginal’? in the driver-side small overlap test.
The Base 4Runner SR5 costs about $ 36,000 with rear-wheel drive, $ 38,000 with four-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes a powerful feature, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment.
The Premium package adds strong synthetic leather upholstery and moonroof.
Priced at around $ 37,800, the SR5 Premium adds a power moonroof, upfront heated synthetic leather seats, and a few other features.
The TRD Off-Road runs about $ 41,000 and is equipped with a rear lock differential, off-road cruise control, and four-wheel driving mode.
The best option is the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, which Toyota bundles with navigation for around $ 1,600.
At around $ 50,000, the TRD Pro performs exceptionally well with Fox shocks, suspension lift, all-terrain tires with light wheels, thick roof racks, and additional underbody protection.
At roughly the same price as the TRD Pro, the 4Runner Limited features large wheels and a chrome-charged dashboard.
2022 4Runner Spy Photos (Redesign)
We have been carefully expecting the Toyota 4Runner to get a reboot for a while, but it looks like this truck-based SUV will remain in the current generation until 2022.
In exchange, we get the new Trail Special Edition which will also be available in Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks.
In addition to typical cosmetic enhancements, the 4Runner Trail will also incorporate some useful equipment.
Based on the entry-level SR5 model, the 4Runner Trail Special Edition will be available with two or four-wheel drive and available in our favorite Army Green and Cement colors, as well as black and white.
For the 2022 model year, only 4,000 Special Edition Trail will be made. In addition to black exterior badging, it will come with TRD off-road wheels and a sturdy Yakima LoadWarrior roof cargo basket.
On the inside, the Trail Special Edition will come with a 40-liter cooler that matches colors with the 4Runner exterior and is mounted to a sliding tray for easy access.
You will also get thick mats throughout the season and brown seams on the black upholstery.

2022 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition
The Toyota 4Runner 2022 is a decade old, and the pickup-based body-on-frame architecture is a relic of the SUVs of the past.
However, its sturdy, off-road-ready personality has more appeal than ever, in stark contrast to the car-like crossovers flooding the market today.
Indeed, the new vehicles – including Toyota’s Highlander as well as the Honda Passport and Chevrolet Blazer – drive and handle better and get much better mileage.
In comparison, 4Runner is slow and thirsty. Its off-road capability far exceeds the norm and rivals the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The multi-purpose interior of the 4Runner can occupy a third-row seat, but it is better used in a two-row form with ample cargo space.
The liftgate electric window is unique to the field and allows long objects (such as surfboards) to protrude backward,
For 2022, 4Runner gets a new Trail Edition which will be limited to 4,000 units. The model is offered in rear or four-wheel drive and gets unique 17-inch TRD wheels along with a unique badge and black seats highlighted by brown stitching. The off-road-oriented TRD Pro is offered in a new Lunar Rock color and benefits from a reset bit of suspension and Nitto Terra Grappler tires. Lastly, all 4Runners get LED headlights.
Consistent with the mechanical simplicity of the 4Runner 2022, all models feature a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter V6 engine that is still paired with a five-speed automatic.
270 horses and 278 lb-ft of torque than most competitors and, perhaps unsurprisingly, this body-on-frame SUV sucks up fuel like a full-size rig.
The EPA estimate is 17 mpg city, 20 mpg highway, and 18 mpg combined for a 4×4 (4×2 sets 21 mpg on the highway).
The capacity of the crane is 5,000 pounds. The trim levels include several TRD variants: SR5, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, TRD Pro, and Limited (the latter also offers a special edition Nightshade dark look). TRD is only 4WD.

2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro
For starters, speaking of the powertrain, the 4Runner will most likely match its 270 HP Inline-6 4.0-liter engine.
As for the transmission, it will be a 6-speed automatic with layout options for RWD, 4WD, and AWD; so we hope nothing changes here.
One can expect an all-wheel-drive option due to the more robust suspension mechanism of the TRD-Pro and TRD-off-road models.
The car may be available in statement colors like Lunar Rock, Tundra, Tacoma, etc., which makes the car look smoother.
For all the off-roaders out there, get ready to experience the new TRD Pro trail special edition, model.
The Pro model will be paired with existing Nitto Terra Grappler tires to highlight its already unrivaled off-road capability.
Expect to accommodate the same thing if the 4Runner 2020 model’s technology features are not upgraded, such as the 8-inch infotainment screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, and so on.
Also, the cabin design will remain the same as in previous years. Speaking of safety features, recently, the model did not meet the standards in the safety tests conducted by IIHS (The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety),
Furthermore, the model lacked some basic safety features such as collision avoidance and forward-warning, which we hope will be eliminated in a new design.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Diesel
Many ideas for improving powertrain and safety have emerged, and this is certainly a hot topic with forum members.
Most agree that the most important increases in power and miles per gallon are the most important. However, the answer branches from there.
I hope they keep it as an off-road capable truck. Maybe a diesel engine? Functional hood scoop (due to turbo diesel); standard front (other than the rear) locker in Off-Road / Pro.
Manual and diesel transmission. V8 !!!! Maybe even a turbo diesel! Please add a front locking diff together with the rear locker.
Bring back the v8 and improve fuel efficiency again. More power and 8-speed transmission. Better fuel economy.
Re-enter the manual and add the V8 option again. I hope their mpg increases so I don’t keep filling up.
LED / DRL and TSS + headlights, both of which are useful for everyday driving!
Turbo Diesel or at least the V8 option (definitely needs more power). Lockers at the front and back. The front axle is sturdy.
I also don’t mind the remote start, air-cooled seats on the Off-Road models. I also like the manual shift gear for my 4wheel drive on trails (I don’t want dials or buttons but that’s probably just me).
Turbo diesel, 8-speed transmission, better headlight bulb, 360 camera, automatic climate.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid
Toyota is in the midst of a remarkable philosophical change in electric or gasoline health. The car recently announced aggressive company-wide plans for electricity-focused sales.
It includes EVs (electric vehicles), along with hybrid and hydrogen vehicles.
In fact, Toyota is planning 50% of global sales in electricity by 2025. However, this is not the whole story.
The most remarkable fact is that Toyota will actually be achieved by 2030, which is planned for this lofty goal. Recently fulfilling this deadline for 5 years.
With sales skyrocketing for popular models such as the RAV4 Hybrid and Camry Hybrid, I can see why public demand has changed Toyota’s thinking. People want fuel efficiency. They want to protect the environment.
It’s curious to me that models will follow in the coming years. Could Toyota 4Runner be next?
All automakers must continue to monitor government requirements and respond accordingly. The changing industry task will force automakers to upgrade their individual models and the fuel efficiency of their brands in the coming years. This will affect not only passenger cars but also trucks and SUVs.
It is expected to hit dealerships for the newly redesigned Toyota 4Runner in the 2022 model year. With it, you just need to bring an updated exterior and interior style, but also an updated engine.
All 4Runner drivers plan to use maximum as they cross the next challenging mountain road. Many can use a commuter or family road trip as a vehicle. This development can fit perfectly, I dare to say, Hybrid 4Runner.
Offering a Hybrid alternative to the 4Runner series makes sense in several ways. First, all significant MPG increases will meet the government’s high fuel expectations. It will also save a great degree on the wallets of the owners.
Currently, all 4Runner 4×2 models offer gasoline mileage along with 17 city/21 roads/18 combined and 17 city/20 roads/18 all 4×4 models.
Toyota already has a very impressive fleet of Hybrid models to offer to its customers.
The All-New RAV4 Hybrid has 40 MPG combined fuel mileage. While the Prius offers 56 MPG combined drivers, the Prius Prime can support an incredible prediction of 133 MPGe.
Drivers can expect up to 52 MPG along with the extremely popular 2019 Camry LE Hybrid.
What about the SUV market? The excitement is being built for the arrival of the entirely new generation Highlander 2020, which will sometimes hit dealerships in December.
The Highlander Hybrid will show an excellent MPG prediction with an incredible 34 MPG combined.
My speculation about what this Toyota 4Runner Hybrid 2022 will look like at the gas station brings me.
Do you think we can expect to see a combined 25 MPG reach? Can it reach or exceed 30 MPG? Also, would you be interested in buying a 4Runner Hybrid, if any?
2022 4Runner Spy Photos (Price)
Prices for the Toyota 4Runner 2022 remain hidden but expect a modest entry fee for the model, which currently comes in at $ 37,240 for an entry-level, two-wheel-drive 4Runner SR5.
The same must be applied to the 2022 4Runner TRD Pro, the 2020 model which starts at $ 50,985.
