Exterior lighting is far from the only change to the body on the 4Runner frame, and the box-shaped Toyota looks to utilize its off-tarmac capability through a new Trail special edition model (which has not yet been launched) that adds TRD wheels, a Yakima roof cargo basket and special coolers in the cargo room.
(Trail kits are also available on Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks.) However, those who are serious about handling the toughest off-road conditions will want to ride the most capable 4Runner trim: The TRD Pro.
Although many are already competent, TRD Pro benefits from additional off-road capabilities for 2022.
Stronger, black-painted TRD wheels work with previously available Nitto Terra Grappler tires to maximize the Fox brand shocks reworked by Pro which promises a low increase. – and high-speed off-tarmac performance.
However, until we are behind the wheel of the 20Runner TRD Pro 2022, we only need to take Toyota’s words that this revision helps make it better at doing rough things.

These are two very precise and precise questions to ask. The Toyota 4Runner will definitely be redesigned, as it hasn’t received one since 4Runner 2010. That’s 11 years running.
Certainly not Toyota’s longest stretch without a new body style. Look at the Tundra. It’s been since 2007 without major design changes. Fans are excited to see the fully revamped Tundra 2022.
That brings us to 4Runner and its “near future” plans.
It’s only natural to wonder what will happen next for our fan-favorite Toyota 4Runner. After all, it is one of the last true SUVs left on the planet. Its body-on-frame design allows it to withstand tough terrain and difficult obstacles. One of the toughest vehicles ever.
However, we all know it’s time for change soon. The problem is we don’t know when. So many emotions felt here.
Toyota is suspiciously silent about the upcoming Toyota 4Runner and Toyota Tacoma plans. We don’t know when they are scheduled to be redesigned. They are also muted radio even on one classification for the next-generation Tundra 2022.
Therefore, we are left to wonder to ourselves.
This is where things get interesting. I’ve heard three different “4Runner redesign model years” provided by various sources in the last two months.
Another auto manufacturer revealed to me that they knew the 4Runner would be redesigned for the 2025 model year. Several different people in the circle who may know have told me that is simply not true. That we will see the new Toyota 4Runner 2023.
But then, I recently heard from two Toyota sources that they are expecting a 6th generation 4Runner for the 2022 model year.
Are you as confused as I am now?
It will be a solid strategy for Toyota to launch the next two generations that are highly anticipated simultaneously. Talk about building hype. Strong hype. Having the all-new Toyota Tundra and 4Runner at the same time would be amazing if you are a lover of Toyota trucks and SUVs.
The fact that Toyota hasn’t revealed a single detail about the new 4Runner doesn’t necessarily disqualify this speculation from being proven correct. Toyota still hasn’t said a peek about the next generation Tundra 2022, and it will be here at the end of this calendar year. Come quickly.
See history and precedent. Toyota didn’t launch the 5th generation 2010 4Runner until September 2009. Not many windows there.
I can also argue against that now, saying no news means no news. 2022 Toyota 4Runner could be the remainder of 2021.
Very likely. In fact, this is probably the most likely scenario.

2022 4Runner Spy Photos (Preview)
The 2022 Toyota 4runner Spy Shots is a remnant from the past as the only medium body-on-frame SUV available in the US today.
In a sea of soft-roading crossovers, 4Runner offers toughness that class doesn’t have.
Although the design of 2023 4runner Spy Photos has been more than 10 years, in addition to the new special edition model, we hope the 2022 4Runner Spy Photos will reach the showroom as a carryover model.
Visually, we hope the Toyota 4Runner 2022 will join the same basic design as it has been since 2010. Of course, the front and rear ends have gone through several refreshers over the years, but most of these sturdy SUV designs remain.
The only important change is the new Trail Edition, which will add dark gray TRD Off-Road wheels and a Yakima LoadWarrior roof cargo basket.
4Runner Trail Edition will be available in Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black, or Super White.
Inside, we assume 4Runner 2022 to continue with the basic cabin design for years.
There have been several technological updates and light fixes, but the dashboard and interior design such as trucks have remained largely unchanged.

Four-wheel drive will be an option because of the more robust suspension on the TRD Pro and TRD Off-Road models.
4Runner is now showing its age in IIHS safety testing with a “Marginal” score in small-overlapping tests, “Bad” light ratings, and no advanced collision avoidance features to talk about – even a forward-warning warning. We hope this simplicity does not change into the 2022 4Runner.

It is estimated that in the summer of 2022, Toyota will introduce the 6th Generation of the Toyota 4Runner for the year 2023. Toyota in the last decade or two has spent a lot of effort and despite the money to keep things under wraps as long as possible, it is actually a bit of corporate practice.

With all the hype already, the biggest question is; “Will 2023 4Runner keep the current 4.0L engine?” There is speculation that it may not. However, the Land Cruiser 300 Series is NEW, and for markets outside of Japan, they continue to offer that 4.0L engine so it will likely remain in the Toyota engine family and allow for a move on to the 4Runner 2023.
The prediction is that the 4Runner might see a 2.4L Turbo inline-4 cylinder slated for the Lexus NX 2022. I know, some people’s hearts may sink a little, but to be honest, the newest engine in Toyota’s lineup has quite a bit of power and good torque figures associated with it. with it for SUVs or mid-sized trucks like the Tacoma.
Hybrid options may also be available for those wishing to migrate from a RAV4 or Highlander and adapt to a larger American space for family needs or for a safety measure while keeping in mind the temperate West Coast climate where infrastructure is developing and deploying on-demand.
It is suspected that the 2.5L Inline-4 Hybrid Engine (A25A-FXS) with two motors would be a possible candidate for the task. We sometimes think that the newer 2020 Highlander which also shares the 2.5L configuration and two electric motors for this AWD version, is sometimes a little underpowered and feel that the V6 option for the hybrid engine would be a lot more suitable. like it was before the 2020 Highlander redesign which also means AWD 4Runner and 4WD?
With the 4Runner retaining the body-on-frame chassis and not following the Highlander under the UNI-body unit as it has over the last two generations. We certainly hope the current 4.0L powerplant will be preserved as much as I know a lot of fans will want.., no, I mean “love”, to see the V8 return to the upcoming migration to the shared TNGA-F1 chassis between the Tundra, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, Prado, and finally the Lexus LX/GX. Sidenotes; This shared chassis will be very important because so many models will share this TNGA-F1 platform which will help keep costs down without sacrificing Toyota’s quality.
My guess is that if all of the above vehicles, most of which have current 4.6L+ V8 options, might see Toyota leaving us with a possible opportunity to make swapping V8s easier for future owners which leads me to another thought… Is Toyota, bitten by the addition of Toyota’s GR-Performance line-up of vehicles reaching a rear-end engine chasing the performance desires of its loyalists moving away from TRD? All right, who else’s panties are getting tighter?
Not that it will completely satisfy the anxious anticipation of fans, expectations after the current design changes from 2010 are expected to be lockdown again in fandom. After all, people who love their trucks, SUVs, and Toyota cars shouldn’t expect the full advancement of positivism. The Toyota 4Runner has likely disappointed some people in the last three decades. In fact, there’s reason to believe that for decades 4Runner has been keeping the family on the road and deeply versed in happiness.
In 2021, the Land Cruiser – Toyota’s longest-running nameplate, leaves North America after proving through its cult-like following its rich heritage and military roots, the Land Cruiser has no doubt been revered for its ability to do exactly what the nameplate says. name: explore the land, whatever the terrain. I share the belief that the Toyota 4Runner will replace it, and as such can receive many attributes from the Land Cruiser to fill those tires. Due to the lack of availability in the exterior photos are not available, there is a reason why the chances of interior photos are getting smaller. However, following Toyota trends, predict newer materials and fabrics and slight adjustments in the usable space. Unlike the Land Cruiser, the base Toyota 4Runner doesn’t come with a standard 4WD, in fact, it costs an additional $1700 on the SR5 trim. The 4Runner non-Limited 4WD system is part-time, with a transfer box that can switch between 2Hi, 4Hi, and 4Lo. Meanwhile, the 4WD Land Cruiser is full-time. Torsen Land cruiser’s limited-slip center diff is lockable, 4Runners equipped with a transfer box can lock their rear differential.
Technologically speaking, the 4Runner shares Multi-Terrain Control (MTC), Off-Road Cruise Control, and assistance for climbing and descending hills. But again, the Land Cruiser does get a bit of an edge with an underbody camera that the driver can use to spot obstacles. The Land Cruiser also has standard KDSS self-leveling, adjustable suspension available for the 4Runner but only in the TRD PRO or TRD Off-Road with the Premium package.

The Toyota 4Runner 2022 is an old-school SUV. It has a body-on-frame structure, a sturdy rear axle, and greased pickup truck parts.

By 2022, the 4Runner gets standard automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitor; its infotainment system adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The 4Runner’s engine is a 4.0 liter V-6 producing 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
The seats are large and soft, and even though it’s set low, it’s a big step up into the cabin. Thanks to its weight and large tires, the 4Runner’s handling can feel heavy at slow speeds.
Ironically, TRD Off-Road can make 4Runner feel safer on the road. It can be equipped with a hydraulically actuated sway bar which reduces the slope on the curve.
The TRD Pro uses another suspension setup, Fox dual reservoir shocks, and a 2.5-inch suspension lift that gives the 4Runner a luxurious ride, despite its taller stride.
The 4Runner rear-wheel drive gets 17 mpg city, 21 highway, 18 combined, while the four-wheel-drive model gets pretty much the same, at 17/20/18 mpg.
NHTSA gave 4Runner 2019 four out of five stars overall in its crash test. IIHS gave it a ‘Fine’ top? scores on many crash tests, but ‘Marginal’? in the driver-side small overlap test.
The Base 4Runner SR5 costs about $ 36,000 with rear-wheel drive, $ 38,000 with four-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes a powerful feature, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment.
The Premium package adds strong synthetic leather upholstery and moonroof.

We have been carefully expecting the Toyota 4Runner to get a reboot for a while, but it looks like this truck-based SUV will remain in the current generation until 2022.

2022 Toyota 4Runner Interior
It may be a large SUV that’s swallowing up parking spaces, but the Toyota 4Runner doesn’t make good use of its interior space – we’re only giving it 6 out of 10 for its impressive cargo space.
A tall step reveals a relatively narrow cabin, although the front seat pilot has a good view and the support seats are draped in fabric, synthetic leather or even genuine leather (which somehow manages to look wrong) on some versions.
Rear passengers only have 33 inches of legroom. Third-row seats are optional on some trims, but access is a challenge and a very tight affair. Go in and buy a Toyota Highlander if carrying more than four passengers is essential.
That Third Row also steals quite a bit of cargo space. Without it, the 4Runner offers about 48 cubic feet of space, and many models come with a handy pull-out tray.

2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro

Turbo Diesel or at least the V8 option (definitely needs more power). Lockers at the front and back. The front axle is sturdy.
I also don’t mind the remote start, air-cooled seats on the Off-Road models. I also like the manual shift gear for my 4wheel drive on trails (I don’t want dials or buttons but that’s probably just me).
