Nonetheless, Toyota continues to improve its old medium size models, and all 2022 4Runners benefit from the addition of low LED spotlights and fog lights.
Ride the Nadehade trim which is more luxurious, limited, dark in color, or TRD Pro off-road-ready trims and Japanese car manufacturers throw in LED headlights too.
Exterior lighting is far from the only change to the body on the 4Runner frame, and the box-shaped Toyota looks to utilize its off-tarmac capability through a new Trail special edition model (which has not yet been launched) that adds TRD wheels, a Yakima roof cargo basket and special coolers in the cargo room.
(Trail kits are also available on Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks.) However, those who are serious about handling the toughest off-road conditions will want to ride the most capable 4Runner trim: The TRD Pro.
Although many are already competent, TRD Pro benefits from additional off-road capabilities for 2022.
Stronger, black-painted TRD wheels work with previously available Nitto Terra Grappler tires to maximize the Fox brand shocks reworked by Pro which promises a low increase. – and high-speed off-tarmac performance.
However, until we are behind the wheel of the 20Runner TRD Pro 2022, we only need to take Toyota’s words that this revision helps make it better at doing rough things.
Regardless, the 2022 4Runner TRD Pro will look better bouncing about the road thanks to the addition of a new color: Lunar Rock.
The blue-ish hue replaced Army Green last year and is available on all other Pro 2022 TRD models, such as Tacoma, Tundra, and Sequoia.

The Toyota 4Runner is a remnant from the past as the only medium body-on-frame SUV available in the US today.
In a sea of soft-roading crossovers, 4Runner offers toughness that class doesn’t have.
Although the design has been more than 10 years, in addition to the new special edition model, we hope the 2022 4Runner Spy Photos will reach the showroom as a carryover model.
Visually, we hope the Toyota 4Runner 2022 will join the same basic design as it has been since 2010. Of course, the front and rear ends have gone through several refreshers over the years, but most of these sturdy SUV designs remain.
The only important change is the new Trail Edition, which will add dark gray TRD Off-Road wheels and a Yakima LoadWarrior roof cargo basket.
4Runner Trail Edition will be available in Army Green, Cement, Midnight Black, or Super White.
Inside, we assume 4Runner 2022 to continue with the basic cabin design for years.
There have been several technological updates and light fixes, but the dashboard and interior design such as trucks have remained largely unchanged.
The Trail Edition mentioned above will add a 40-liter cooler and cargo tray, but the cabin will be identical to the rest of the 4Runner lineup.
Under its hood, the Toyota 4Runner 2022 is likely to continue with the same 4.0-liter V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 278 pound-foot torque.
This power will go through a five-speed automatic transmission and out to the rear wheels as standard.
Four-wheel drive will be an option because of the more robust suspension on the TRD Pro and TRD Off-Road models.
4Runner is now showing its age in IIHS safety testing with a “Marginal” score in small-overlapping tests, “Bad” light ratings, and no advanced collision avoidance features to talk about – even a forward-warning warning. We hope this simplicity does not change into the 2022 4Runner.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Limited
The Toyota 4Runner 2022 is an old school SUV. It has a body-on-frame structure, a sturdy rear axle, and greased pickup truck parts.
That gives the base SR5 model some significant off-road capability, while the TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro models take the recipe to its limits.
By 2022, the 4Runner gets standard automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitor; its infotainment system adds Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The 4Runner’s engine is a 4.0 liter V-6 producing 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.
The seats are large and soft, and even though it’s set low, it’s a big step up into the cabin. Thanks to its weight and large tires, the 4Runner’s handling can feel heavy at slow speeds.
Ironically, TRD Off-Road can make 4Runner feel safer on the road. It can be equipped with a hydraulically actuated sway bar which reduces the slope on the curve.
The TRD Pro uses another suspension setup, Fox dual reservoir shocks and a 2.5-inch suspension lift that gives the 4Runner a luxurious ride, despite its taller stride.
The 4Runner rear-wheel drive gets 17 mpg city, 21 highway, 18 combined, while the four-wheel-drive model gets pretty much the same, at 17/20/18 mpg.
NHTSA gave 4Runner 2019 four out of five stars overall in its crash test. IIHS gave it a ‘Fine’ top? scores on many crash tests, but ‘Marginal’? in the driver-side small overlap test.
The Base 4Runner SR5 costs about $ 36,000 with rear-wheel drive, $ 38,000 with four-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes a powerful feature, an 8.0-inch touchscreen for infotainment.
The Premium package adds strong synthetic leather upholstery and moonroof.
Priced at around $ 37,800, the SR5 Premium adds a power moonroof, upfront heated synthetic leather seats, and a few other features.
The TRD Off-Road runs about $ 41,000 and is equipped with a rear lock differential, off-road cruise control, and four-wheel driving mode.
The best option is the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System, which Toyota bundles with navigation for around $ 1,600.
At around $ 50,000, the TRD Pro performs exceptionally well with Fox shocks, suspension lift, all-terrain tires with light wheels, thick roof racks, and additional underbody protection.
At roughly the same price as the TRD Pro, the 4Runner Limited features large wheels and a chrome-charged dashboard.

We have been carefully expecting the Toyota 4Runner to get a reboot for a while, but it looks like this truck-based SUV will remain in the current generation until 2022.
In exchange, we get the new Trail Special Edition which will also be available in Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks.
In addition to typical cosmetic enhancements, the 4Runner Trail will also incorporate some useful equipment.
Based on the entry-level SR5 model, the 4Runner Trail Special Edition will be available with two or four-wheel drive and available in our favorite Army Green and Cement colors, as well as black and white.
For the 2022 model year, only 4,000 Special Edition Trail will be made. In addition to black exterior badging, it will come with TRD off-road wheels and a sturdy Yakima LoadWarrior roof cargo basket.
On the inside, the Trail Special Edition will come with a 40-liter cooler that matches colors with the 4Runner exterior and is mounted to a sliding tray for easy access.
You will also get thick mats throughout the season and brown seams on the black upholstery.

2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro
For starters, speaking of the powertrain, the 4Runner will most likely match its 270 HP Inline-6 4.0-liter engine.
As for the transmission, it will be a 6-speed automatic with layout options for RWD, 4WD, and AWD; so we hope nothing changes here.

2022 Toyota 4Runner Diesel
Many ideas for improving powertrain and safety have emerged, and this is certainly a hot topic with forum members.
Most agree that the most important increases in power and miles per gallon are the most important. However, the answer branches from there.
I hope they keep it as an off-road capable truck. Maybe a diesel engine? Functional hood scoop (due to turbo diesel); standard front (other than the rear) locker in Off-Road / Pro.
Manual and diesel transmission. V8 !!!! Maybe even a turbo diesel! Please add a front locking diff together with the rear locker.
Bring back the v8 and improve fuel efficiency again. More power and 8-speed transmission. Better fuel economy.
Re-enter the manual and add the V8 option again. I hope their mpg increases so I don’t keep filling up.
LED / DRL and TSS + headlights, both of which are useful for everyday driving!
Turbo Diesel or at least the V8 option (definitely needs more power). Lockers at the front and back. The front axle is sturdy.
I also don’t mind the remote start, air-cooled seats on the Off-Road models. I also like the manual shift gear for my 4wheel drive on trails (I don’t want dials or buttons but that’s probably just me).

Drivers can expect up to 52 MPG along with the extremely popular 2019 Camry LE Hybrid.
What about the SUV market? The excitement is being built for the arrival of the entirely new generation Highlander 2020, which will sometimes hit dealerships in December.
The Highlander Hybrid will show an excellent MPG prediction with an incredible 34 MPG combined.
My speculation about what this Toyota 4Runner Hybrid 2022 will look like at the gas station brings me.
