We haven’t had time to sit inside the Corolla Cross yet, but the exterior dimensions are bigger than the C-HR and Corolla hatchback models, which will help provide passenger and cargo space.

This part seems to be shared with the Corolla; the interior design seems to have been influenced by the C-HR.

2022 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid Engine
We’re not yet sure what powertrains the Corolla Cross will offer in the United States but in Thailand,
The SUV subcompact offers a 138 hp 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a continuously variable automatic (CVT) transmission and front-wheel drive.
Sounds familiar, that’s because the same tuning is offered on the Corolla sedan and the C-HR SUV.
Interestingly, the Corolla Cross also offers an optional hybrid powertrain in the global market, which adds two electric motors to it.
It’s possible that Toyota could make standard equipment hybrid powertrains when the Corolla Crossheads to North America – and if so, that means the all-wheel-drive will be a possibility.
The Corolla Cross will mechanically share much of the foundation with the existing Corolla hatch, according to data from Thailand,

The EPA has yet to release a fuel economy rating for the Corolla Cross and we likely won’t know what those estimates are until the SUV’s sale date approaches.

We hope the GR Corolla will share most of its cabin with the standard Corolla hatchback, which means great build quality, soft-touch materials, and lots of features, but with sportier trim and sporty seats.

Last fall at the Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota launched the GR Yaris, a high-performance version of its famous hatchback; The web is positively exploding, especially on this side of the Atlantic.
The fine print does show that the future hot hatch is aimed solely at the Japanese and European markets, but that hasn’t stopped some from dreaming. However, the reality is that the Yaris offered in that market and the one we have here – basically a rebadged Mazda2 – are not the same. GR Yaris never came here.

Now, according to Car and Driver, it is certain that the Corolla will receive GR treatment from the company’s racing division, Gazoo Racing. The publication even marks the year of the model’s arrival: 2022, the same year that the Corolla-based SUV is expected.
It is also hoped that the future GR Corolla will inherit the GR Yaris engine, a 1.6L turbocharged unit capable of producing 257 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. Power rose as high as 268 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque with the GR Yaris variant provided for the Japanese market.
The GR Corolla will no doubt be less extreme than the GR Yaris. According to a new report, Toyota’s new GR Corolla hot hatch and GR C-HR performance SUV will be revealed sooner than expected, with both flagship models packing 200kW of power.
Best Car Web claims the GR Corolla will debut a year from now, in September 2021, with it also going to be available in body wagon styles.

The nameplate provided for the most focused models in Toyota’s growing Gazoo Racing lineup, so maybe their chassis upgrades will be the next level.
The Japanese publication also noted that Gazoo Racing’s entry-level GR Sport maintenance will be applied to the mid-size RAV4 SUV in December next year,
