The Toyota Sequoia is the best name for one of the SUVs with the longest lifetime in America. The current generation is over 12 years old and is in dire need of an overhaul. In preparation for that, we have an interesting rendering to show you.
Sequoia came out in 2000 (2001MY), current and second generation launched in 2007. Despite the facelift in 2017, it is still not as fresh as its main competitors. The Russian website Kolesa considers it necessary to present a new style for the 2022 model year.
A new Toyota Sequoia is in the works. Back in February, we put together a reliable insider on Toyota’s future who set 2022 in the coming year for the next-generation SUV. For the Toyota award, the Sequoia’s new look is a closely guarded secret.

2022 Toyota Sequoia Rendering
Despite being a work of fiction, these renderings paint a very realistic picture of future Sequoia and can easily be taken for granted. Whether Toyota is of the same mindset is clear, but what does know is that the current Sequoia is old. In a very fast evolution of the SUV, the current model has been around since 2008. Toyota provided the Sequoia with a very modest refresher for the 2018 model year, followed by a TRD Pro upgrade in 2019.
However, it has never been a volume seller, and sales have slumped significantly. consistent since 2016 to more than 10,000 units delivered in 2019.
With no prototypes or even test mules to work with, these renderings are based on current models with a focus on popular automotive design trends. Having said that, the theme here is evolutionary-versus-revolutionary, with Sequoia still easily recognizable in its new look.
Thinner headlights with vertically oriented driving lights are certainly a trendy design feature, and help give this Sequoia interpretation a clean and sleek look. The grille doesn’t appear to be enlarged, but the lattice is slightly more prominent.
In the profile, we see the impact of RAV4. The sloping body line above the front fender reflects the wheel arches of the smaller SUV, although the actual aperture of the Sequoia remains round.
Slight creases in the beltline and body lines at the rear doors are other modern design themes, as are the RAV4-style floating roof elements on the D-pillars. At the rear, the next-generation Sequoia also takes the page from the RAV4 with a similar lower bumper and sleek, edgy taillights.
2022 Toyota Sequoia Specs
Now, this is in no way a reflection of the stylistic changes that Toyota has planned. But we like them. Like most of the best-selling body-on-frame SUVs (think Nissan Armada), it feels more like a facelift than a new vehicle. The new headlights and taillights were clearly fitted, while the bumpers gave more character.
As a full size 3 line vehicle, the Sequoia had to compete with the Chevy Suburban. However, its relationship with the SUV is similar to that of the Silverado truck and the Tundra. You quickly notice that Toyota uses a V8 powertrain that is reliable enough to cover millions of miles but lacks in miles per gallon.
If you take money out of the equation, the Sequoia TRD Pro 2020 is outstanding. There are cool army green paint and an all-black trim package and under the hood is a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. The exhaust sound is definitely one of the best in class, but is the combo worth $ 65,000? You tell us.
Truth be told, this is a very lucrative part of the SUV market, where people spend a fortune on embroidered headrests and black badges. Toyota will love the new Sequoia, but it may need to start with a pickup and work from there.
2022 Toyota Sequoia Interior
Cheap-looking plastic insides and flashy controls keep up with the Sequoia cabin. The large knobs and flashy buttons still function well. However, this SUV is seriously lacking in modern features – such as a heated steering wheel, a head-up display, and massage front seats – that are available in most rivals. People who want a durable interior without over-the-top options will appreciate the Sequoia.
Most people won’t. Fortunately, passenger space is plentiful, with comfortable legroom in all three rows. And the third row will accommodate adult-sized people pretty well. The Sequoia contains a large amount of luggage behind the third row and with the rear seats stowed away.
This is noteworthy because Toyota does not have an additional version for increased cargo capacity like the Ford Expedition does. It also has enough interior cubby storage for moonlight as a travel yard sale.
The Sequoia lineup ships with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Toyota finally brought Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities to the table and made these two smartphone-friendly features standard.
Sequoia also has a Wi-Fi hotspot, which requires a subscription after the initial trial period. A rear-seat entertainment system is also available, as is the upgraded JBL audio system.
2022 Toyota Sequoia Engine
About the 2022 Toyota Sequoia engine is only available with a 381 hp V-8 engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and rear or four-wheel drive. The Sequoia we tested was pretty fast around town, with responsive gas pedals and a smooth-shifting transmission. It also has a lot of power to combine or pass the highway.
Although the Sequoia is built on a pickup truck chassis, it still carries the rear suspension with a modern design. While it is enough to isolate us from the harshest of impacts, too many vibrations and vibrations enter the cabin as we cross rough surfaces. Neither of its competitors is particularly fun to drive, but they tend to handle better and feel calmer.
Toyota’s light steering is easy to control in tight spaces and when driving on the road, but lack of feedback further detracts from handling. The Sequoia brake pedal is easy to modulate and tighten after the initial input.
The TRD Pro models have official off-road gear that includes raised suspension, grease shock absorbers, and exclusive wheels with fat tires. Although it can withdraw up to 7,400 pounds, some competitors can withdraw another 1,000 pounds or more.

Sequoias are heavy drinkers – gasoline. While many of its full-size class also have an insatiable thirst for fossil fuels, Toyota has the worst EPA estimates and real-world fuel savings in its class.
The Sequoia we tested delivered 16 mpg on our highway fuel-efficient test route, 1 mpg below its government rating. That figure is at least 2 mpg worse than every other competitor we evaluated.
2022 Toyota Sequoia Price and Release Date
This new 2022 forecast for the Toyota Sequoia has one of the highest starting prices. While most extravagant trim levels are under $ 70,000, that kind of money could also get you the best Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon.
We will maximize the value of the Sequoia while sticking to the basic SR5 model which is well equipped. It comes with standard driver assistance, many of which cost extra at the competition.
The SR5 has eight seats with standard second-row seat seats; Seven seater sequoias are available with captain seats. Adding four-wheel drive costs $ 3255 on the SR5, but it provides four seasons of safety for those who need it.
The Premium plan is the only significant option on this model, but we don’t think the contents are worth the hefty price tag. Too bad that’s the only way to get the SR5 with a leather interior, premium audio system, and heated front seats.
