All-New 2024 Toyota Corolla Review: Compact Car Greater Than Ever

Posted on

2024 Toyota Corolla is a transformed car, and customers will love what they see and drive. The line is expanded with four new Hybrid variants, including a more powerful hybrid system and the availability of all-wheel drive.

There’s big news on the gas side of the Corolla family too. The LE, the most popular class, now has the 169-horsepower 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine used in all other gas classes.

Replacing the 139-hp 1.8-liter engine, it offers much more dynamic performance (0-60 two seconds faster than the 1.8L engine).

However, it’s also more efficient, increasing the previous engine’s fuel economy rating by nearly two miles per gallon with a manufacturer estimate of 31 cities/40 hwy./34 MPG combined.

And that’s just for beginners. All Corolla 2023 models get the next-generation Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, next-generation Toyota Audio Multimedia, and feature updated front and rear styling.

The extensive improvements to the 12th generation Corolla demonstrate Toyota’s strong approach to continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

That’s a big reason why Corolla, which has sold more than 50 million globally since 1966, has become the world’s best-selling model.

In all models of the Corolla 2023 gas engine, the Dynamic Shift continuously variable transmission provides a distinct feel of performance thanks to the gearset being used as the “first” gear for acceleration start-off, before being smoothly transferred to the CVT pulley system.

The increased synchronization of engine speed and vehicle speed gives the feel of linear acceleration. This combined with an enhanced sports mode provides a more exciting driving experience for the Corolla 2023.

In addition, in the SE and XSE grades, the transmission is equipped with paddle shifters to use 10 pre-defined ratios to offer a sportier driving experience.

2024 Toyota Corolla Review

The 2024 Toyota Corolla makes some changes While the compact car is mostly a carryover model, it benefits from a slightly updated design, revised lineup, new standard engine, Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of safety features, and an updated infotainment system.

2024 Toyota Corolla

The Corolla Hybrid and Corolla Cross are protected separately.

The Corolla comes with several exterior styling changes. The sedan’s body style gets a revised front fascia, LED daytime running lights, as well as redesigned LED headlights.

The sporty SE and XSE trim benefits from a new diffuser and new 18-inch alloy wheels. The Corolla hatchback gets a redesigned front grille, body-colored rear bumper, revised LED headlights, and new optional 18-inch alloy wheels.

Most of us have been Corolla owners. Otherwise, we could easily. During those times when we were looking for something, Toyota could rely on, affordable, with low running costs, and excellent safety value.

When we don’t care to make a statement as long as we can make the payment. And we can count on the car to start in the morning, so we can get to work.

Maybe that time is now. If that’s the case, this might be a compact car for you. The Corolla 2023 sedan simply works and asks for almost nothing from the owner other than the usual fluids and the occasional set of tires, wipers, or brake pads.

Becoming a Corolla owner means having the time and space to do other things too.

  • Revised style
  • Updated technology
  • 1.8-liter engine & L trim down

2024 Toyota Corolla Specs

A small grace for 2023 is that the LE trim gains more muscle. Toyota has downgraded the 139-horsepower 1.8-liter engine, so every new Corolla uses a 2.0-liter unit with 169 horsepower.

It won’t suddenly turn this practical and popular compact sedan into a BMW alternative, but there is some passion for the driving experience.

Even the automatic transmission goes in for some special treatment. Although the continuously variable transmission (CVT) is widely vilified, Toyota has sharpened its response when moving from rest and improved the Sport mode.

The SE and XSE also have paddle shifters under their steering wheels, allowing the driver to shift between 10 simulated gears, should they feel a push.

The SE and XSE also have sportier suspensions than Corolla’s other stable counterparts. Although again, Toyota’s sporty idea is not the same as BMW’s. Or even Mazda.

The Corolla 2023 is a relaxed drive that maintains its composure even when out of its comfort zone.

2024 Toyota Corolla Interior

On the inside, the Toyota Corolla will share the same overall design as the current model. Both the sedan and the hatchback have a sleek look with a simple horizontal dashboard.

The infotainment system is placed in the center of the dashboard but front of the dashboard. Toyota includes physical controls for the infotainment and HVAC systems.

Every Corolla now comes with an updated infotainment system for 2023. This compact car has a redesigned 8-inch infotainment system, while the vehicle’s digital gauge cluster has been updated. The available 7-inch digital instrument cluster has also been redesigned.

Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are now standard. Available features should include a wireless charging pad, nine audio speakers, navigation, and a Wi-Fi hot spot.

Enhanced Security Technology: TSS 3.0

Toyota became an early leader in equipping its vehicles with safety systems featuring automatic emergency braking and, for 2023, Toyota Safety Sense technology in the Corolla expands to version 3.0 and includes the following enhanced versions:

  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD)
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
  • Path Tracking Assistance (LTA)
  • Road Sign Assistance (RSA)
  • Auto High Beam (AHB)

Additionally, the Corolla is available with Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking and Adaptive Front Lighting.

The latter provides a wider light field and directs the low beam headlights in the direction of the turn, based on the steering angle and vehicle speed.

2024 Toyota Corolla Exterior

The revised rear bumper fits into LE trim; a new rear diffuser and 18-inch alloy wheels with a gloss graphite finish adorn the SE and XSE versions. The new colors for 2023 are Underground and Midnight Black Metallic.

It will require parking the Corolla 2023 sedan alongside its 2022 counterpart to appreciate the subtle differences, but every new Corolla receives LED daytime running lights.

And there are redesigned LED headlights for the SE, XSE, and XLE trims.
