New 2024 Toyota Sequoia Review: Next-Gen Powerful Presence Full-Size SUV Specs, Price and Release Date

Posted on

2024 Toyota Sequoia last fall after leaving its successor to a bit of stalemate Toyota finally unveiled the all-new full-size Tundra pickup.

Now, we’ve got its SUV partner: the all-new Sequoia. With the Land Cruiser no longer being sold on American soil, the Sequoia is currently the only full-size Toyota-branded SUV on offer.

The Sequoia will not have the coveted Land Cruiser name, and it will be built in America rather than Japan. But it will run on the same platform as the J300-gen Land Crusher. On paper, the Sequoia package looks attractive enough that Toyota truck enthusiasts will be more than satisfied. And probably won’t wait four years either.

Toyota offers the Sequoia in five classes: SR5, Limited, Platinum, new luxury Capstone, and off-road high-performance TRD Pro.

The SR5 and Limited class SUVs can be equipped with the TRD Off-Road package, including selectable rear locking differential, Multi-Terrain Select, Downhill Assist Control, Crawl Control, and TRD-tuned Bilstein monotube shocks and 18-inch alloy wheels.

The TRD Pro adds the stuff of TRD Off-Road with a slip plate and upgrades to FOX’s internal bypass shocks. The Capstone will be similar to the Tundra with exclusive black and white leather seating, open-porous wood, and 22-inch chrome alloy wheels.

2024 Toyota Sequoia Review

2024 Toyota Sequoia The new Toyota Sequoia 3-row full-size SUV is the most luxurious in Toyota’s portfolio, almost overlapping with Lexus territory, and very capable on off-road terrain while exhibiting excellent on-road behavior.

Built on a new platform that also underpins the latest Lexus LX and Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs, as well as the Toyota Tundra pickup, the Sequoia still uses the traditional body-on-frame construction which means that weight is unavoidable, but there’s also appropriate sturdiness that helps the Sequoia. reach its maximum towing capacity.

The hybrid powertrain provides a clever solution to this conundrum, with selectable driving modes for added flexibility. Toyota engineers have also applied various construction techniques to reduce mass compared to older SUVs.

For extra guarantee, the hybrid powertrain has an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty, with the battery covered for 10 years or 150,000 miles whichever comes first.

2024 Toyota Sequoia Specs

A twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter petrol V6 and electric motor power the Sequoia with 437 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque at speeds of up to 18 mph, the electric motor doing most of the work, which should help fuel the Sequoia around town. But the electric motor can also provide extra thrust when needed.

Sequoia has selectable driving modes. They are Eco, Normal and Sport. With load-leveling rear air suspension or fully adaptive suspension in the picture, Comfort and Sport S+ modes are added, along with user-adjustable settings.

The TRD Sport Package for the base SR5 features, of course, a sportier suspension. TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development and the division has other treatments available for the new Sequoia. Like the TRD Off-Road package (for the 4-wheel-drive versions of the SR5 and Limited trim) with a different type of specialist suspension, along with a locking rear differential, Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control.

For those who make good use of the new 9,000-pound Sequoia’s towing capabilities, the Tow Tech package assists in the form of Trailer Backup Guide and Straight Path Assist. Extendable side mirrors are available for the first time at Sequoia.

2024 Toyota Sequoia Interior

Space is never an issue at Sequoia. Even the third row is adult-friendly. This time, Toyota offers an optional sliding third row to maximize legroom or cargo space; there are 6 inches of travel. Just behind them is the optional adjustable cargo rack system which is a feature of the new Sequoia.

In its most basic form (which is still quite luxurious), the Sequoia SR5 comes as an 8-seater. The 3-person seat is in the second row, but these seats are replaced by a pair of captain’s chairs on the higher seats.

Capstone is a new trim level, creating the most luxurious Sequoia ever. It features American Walnut wood trim, perforated semi-aniline leather upholstery in an exclusive black-and-white color scheme, a large infotainment touchscreen, and acoustic glass for the front side windows.

The new Sequoia sports the new Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system (basically the Lexus Interface with a less fancy name). Sequoia buyers can upgrade to the new 14.0-inch touchscreen.

Naturally, its size also contributes to its overall commanding presence. Wheel sizes range from 18 inches to 22 inches. Capstone wheels have a chrome finish. There is the usual array of white, black, silver, and gray paint. Premium colors include Supersonic Red and — exclusive to the TRD Pro model — Solar Octane, dark orange.

Toyota Sequoia Features

The SR5 trim is the most affordable of the new Sequoias, but the standard equipment is generous. It comes with a moonroof, heated front seats, a 12.3-inch digital driver information display, rear seat alerts, and a 360-degree camera system.

Unfortunately, the infotainment touchscreen on the SR5 only measures 8 inches. These were replaced by 14-inch versions in each of the higher trims. But it does come with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto wireless integration and supports Apple Music and Amazon Music streaming.

A full set of driver assistance features are also standard, including blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control.

Toyota Sequoia Engine & Transmission

The gasoline component is a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6. An electric motor-generator sits between that and a 10-speed automatic transmission with a combined output of 437 horsepower and 538 lb-ft of torque — a definite improvement from last year’s 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft.

2024 Toyota Sequoia

The basic setup is rear-wheel drive (RWD), but 4-wheel drive (4WD) with a high/low transfer case is on the list of options and comes standard on the TRD Pro variant.

We don’t expect the new Sequoia to suddenly rival the Prius for fuel economy, but it should be better than the second-generation mid-teens average.

  • 3.4 liter twin-turbocharged V6 + electric motor
  • 437 combined horsepower
  • 583 lb-ft of combined torque
  • EPA city/highway fuel economy: N/A

2024 Toyota Sequoia Price

The Toyota Sequoia starts at $58,300, plus a destination cost of $1,495. A midrange 4×4 Limited starts at $67,700, while the decadent Capstone model comes in at $78,300.

2024 Toyota Sequoia Release Date
