2022 Toyota RAV4 The fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 is here in 2019 with a bold and sturdy look. This design has remained the same since then, and we hope it will remain the default model when the Toyota RAV4 2022 hits the showroom.
The fifth-generation RAV4 ushered in a new era for this compact crossover. It drops the softer design from previous years and adopts a bold new look that adds an upright stance, a flat nose, a sharp truck-like grille, flared wheels, rugged body cladding, sharp body lines, and more.
It looks and feels like a legitimate off-road crossover, especially in its TRD Off-Road trim. Also, we hope that the RAV4 2022 will continue to look the same.
Full-electric and hybrid powertrains continue to spread rapidly throughout the auto industry, so it’s no surprise that Toyota’s hybrid auto specialists are offering the RAV4 Hybrid and the plug-in hybrid RAV4 called the Prime.
The Japanese automaker has applied the lessons learned from its Prius hybrid to enter the much trendier compact SUV class.
Based on the regular non-hybrid RAV4 (reviewed separately), the RAV4 Hybrid and Prime offer similar practicality and features with much better fuel efficiency and, in the case of the Prime, respectable electric-only driving distance.
These electric Toyota are not alone in this segment – hybrid versions of the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and Mitsubishi Outlander are also available – but they are well equipped to compete for your hard-earned dollar.
2022 Toyota RAV4 Refresh
2022 Toyota RAV4 The Toyota RAV4 is consistently one of the best-selling vehicles on the market, and if you’re looking for a compact SUV, chances are the RAV4 is on the shortlist. The newest model – which made its debut for the 2019 model year – really raised our expectations.
We’ve always known the RAV4 is a good choice if you want space for five people and luggage, but rarely get any emotion. The 2019 anniversary design features a tough exterior and interior that is significantly more luxurious than its predecessor. This is the RAV4 with attitude.
Most of the RAV4 variants are compatible with competitors. You have a wallet-friendly model, an item-packed top trim version, and a few of them. There’s also the RAV4 Adventure with tougher exterior styling and hill drop controls, as well as TRD Off-Road, which adds all-terrain tires and custom suspension adjustments.
This trim doesn’t turn the RAV4 into a mini-Wrangler, but it does help the RAV4 offer more capability than other soft-roaders.
The fifth-generation RAV4 is roughly half its life cycle, so Toyota might treat the 2022 model with an exterior refresh.
Even so, we expect the lineup and core powertrain features to remain the same as last year. Buyers who are now looking for the famous compact SUV should take a look at the Toyota RAV4 2021.

Equipped with a full-electric and hybrid powertrain continues to spread rapidly throughout the auto industry, so it’s no surprise that Toyota’s hybrid car specialists will expand the RAV4 Hybrid and PHEV Prime lineups.
Toyota made some changes to the RAV4 2022 lineup. The crossover compact SUV is one of America’s most successful vehicles – it debuted in 1996. For the new model year, the company’s powered RAV4 offering could expand.

2022 Toyota RAV4 Interior
Inside, the fifth-generation RAV4’s toughness continues with its razor-sharp dashboard that includes many hard lines and cuts, large HVAC knobs, box-shaped steering wheel center, fat shifter, and more. Across several trim levels, it also gets bold contrasting accents.
The RAV4 also has plenty of room to store items, including one under the passenger side dashboard. We anticipate no changes to the interior of the RAV4 2022.
The RAV4 is currently equipped with standard fabric upholstery, 17-inch wheels, a separate folding rear seat, a 7-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. These features will most likely remain the same in 2022 RAV4.
Under the hood, the RAV4 has a single engine option, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. This power flows through an eight-speed automatic transmission and out to the front wheels as standard.

There are two optional all-wheel-drive systems as well. On the LE and XLE trims, optional all-wheel-drive shifts power forward and rear as needed. On the TRD Off-Road, Limited, and Adventure trim, the more advanced torque vector all-wheel-drive system shifts power from front to rear and side to side for optimal traction.
We hope that this powertrain option remains the same in the RAV4 2022.
All current Toyota RAV4 models include automatic emergency braking, active lane control, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beam. Buyers can also add an optional blind-spot monitor. IIHS rates the current RAV4 as a Top Safety Pick, but this only applies to its Limited Hybrid trim, which is the only model with the required “Good” grade LED projector headlamps.
All standard RAV4 headlights are rated “Marginal”, putting them out of the Top Safety Pick competition. However, in all crash tests, the RAV4 had a “Good” rating. We hope that these ratings and features stay the same in RAV4 2022.
2022 Toyota RAV4 Exterior
The 2022 fifth-generation Toyota RAV4 can very clearly be seen ushering in a new era for this compact crossover. It leaves a softer design than previous years. It adopts a strong and contemporary look that adds a taller posture, a flat nose, an explicit truck-like grille, flared wheels, sturdy body cladding, sharp body lines, and more.
The grooming looks alluring and the grip looks like a legit off-road crossover, especially in its TRD Off-Road trim. Also, we hope that the RAV4 2022 will continue to look the same.
The RAV4’s thick fenders in TRD Off-Road and Adventure trim look great, and the sporty touch on the new RAV4 Prime is a win for ute. The prime models get a distinctive grille with gloss black bumpers and a contrasting roof color on the XSE.
2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
Expected to go on sale in Australia towards the end of next year or in early 2022, the fourth version of the evergreen mid-size SUV will be the first in a series of Nissans motivated e-Power hybrids, with the next generation Qashqai. And even variations of the newest Juke small SUV are also in line for electrification.
Overall, Nissan Australia aims to offer the full third of its model lineup at e-Power or fully electrified within the next three years.
And as we said in our mid-term plans (Nissan’s global roadmap for the next three years was released in June), we expect to have 30 percent of our portfolio on electric power, and e-Power gives us full power for the wheels. experience, in addition to the possibility of some completely electrified product.
In short, the e-Power is Nissan’s proprietary hybrid system in which the electric motor only drives the wheels, while the internal combustion engine (ICE) only recharges a battery pack that is larger than, say Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid battery but smaller than those used in vehicles. electricity (EV).
As well as being relatively inexpensive, the e-Power has nothing to plugin and is said to be about 50 percent more fuel-efficient than a comparable ICE.

Along with the e-Power versions of the X-Trail, Qashqai, and Juke, it is anticipated that the next-generation version of the Note small hatchback with e-Power is being investigated for 2022, while on the full EV front, Nissan is preparing to further expand the Leaf’s range. multiple variants have the Ariya EV SUV to consider, and may even develop a smaller SUV / crossover EV on the track.
While acknowledging the barriers that have helped lower since its hugely successful launch in mid-2019, Lester insists that the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid’s relentless movement on the sales charts caters only to markets that are ready and waiting for electrification.
2022 Toyota RAV4 Battery
The plug-in hybrid RAV4 Prime stores its electrons in an 18.1-kWh battery pack and the EPA rates the electric-only driving distance at 42 miles. In our tests, we managed to drive 32 miles on electricity alone, but that was on the highway; we expect longer driving distances in cities.
A 3.3 kWh built-in charger is standard and a 6.6 kWh charger is optional on the Prime XSE; it reduces the charging time to just 2.5 hours on a 240-volt outlet. If only a 120-volt outlet is available, estimate the charging time to be around 12 hours.
2022 Toyota RAV4 MPG
The fuel-only 2022 Toyota RAV4 delivers 203 horsepower, does not benefit from direct electric motor torque, and delivers 30 mpg in combination. The RAV4 offers 26 MPG in the city, 35 MPG on the road, an incredible number in its segment.
The Hybrid-type RAV4, which comes with standard all-wheel drive, offers 219 horsepower combined with the instant torque from the electric assist motor and is estimated to deliver about 40 mpg in combined driving.
That made it stiff competition from the others and represented a big improvement over the previous model (which was only capable of 25 mpg), but was beaten by the Volkswagen Tiguan, which produced 33 mpg.
2022 Toyota RAV4 Engine
We really hope the powertrain options remain the same in the RAV4 2022. Looking at the bottom of the hood, the RAV4 has a single engine option, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit with 203 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. This power flows through an eight-speed automatic transmission and out to the front wheels as standard.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 offers two optional all-wheel-drive systems as well. Optional all-wheel drive transfers power forwards and backward as needed.
On the TRD Off-Road, Limited, and Adventure trim, the more advanced torsion vector all-wheel-drive system shifts power front-to-rear and side-to-side for optimal traction.
The RAV4 Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine assisted by two electric motors for a combined output of 219 horsepower.
All-wheel drive is standard – one electric motor drives the rear wheel and a second motor and a petrol engine drive the front – as is a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The RAV4 Hybrid is not only more efficient than the non-powered model but also faster.
This stopped time of 7.4 seconds 60-mph in our hands while the gas-only model took 8.0 seconds to do the same task. Drivers will also feel that excitement, especially around town, where the satisfying direct power delivery from the electric motor provides an extra boost when taking off from stops.
If you want better performance, the Prime model is happy to help. In our tests, the RAV4 Prime jumped up to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds. Like the standard RAV4, the handling of the hybrid and Prime models is competent and the ride is comfortable, but don’t expect any cornering action here.
When compared to the gas-powered all-wheel-drive RAV4, the hybrid model is much more efficient. The EPA estimates it will achieve 41 mpg city, 38 mpg highway, and 40 mpg combined, beating the regular RAV4 by 14 mpg, 5 mpg, and 11 mpg, respectively.
When we tested the RAV4 Hybrid on a 200-mile fuel-efficient route, it delivered 37 mpg, 1 mpg lower than its EPA rating. Prime earned a combined EPA rating of 94 MPGe and delivered 73 MPGe during our road fuel economy tests.
Does The Toyota RAV4 Have A V6 Engine
From what we know the 2022 Toyota RAV4 North American model includes a choice of a 2.4-liter 2AZ-FE inline-four or a 3.5-liter 2GR-FE V6 engine. Toyota RAV4 North America with a 3.5 liter 2GR-FE V6 engine is equipped with a five-speed automatic transmission. All US models feature the Toyota Star Safety System which includes Vehicle Stability Control.
What Is RAV4 Xle Premium Package
In the 2022 Toyota RAV4 XLE Premium, we expect it to start at $ 30,850. This brings up everything from XLE while adding a few more things. It has a SofTex synthetic leather upholstery, power liftgate, moonroof, and leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifters.
XLE Premium also has three similar, but different, plans available: Cold Weather, Audio Plus, and Technology. Cold Weather adds the same features as the XLE, along with memory settings for the driver’s seat.
Audio Plus also upscales the touchscreen to 8 inches, but this time includes a premium JBL 11-speaker sound system. The technology adds several driver-assist features, including a front / rear parking sensor, reverse automatic braking, wireless smartphone charging, rearview camera, and universal garage door opener.
2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime
An important metric for car sales is the average time a particular model spends in the dealer lot. The Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid does quite well in that area.
The RAV4 Prime is the fastest-selling new car in March, second only to the Chevrolet Corvette, according to an iSeeCars analysis. It took an average of 10.2 days to sell the RAV4 Prime last month, while the average transaction price was $ 44,201 (compared to a base price of $ 39,220), according to the analysis.
Launched last summer as a 2021 model, the RAV4 Prime has only been available in limited numbers so far. The pent-up request likely helped the crossover fly from many dealers. The demand was so great that the dealer added a $ 10,000 markup.
With battery supply problems previously limited to production, Toyota said that from the calendar year 2021, it plans for 20,000 units a year for the United States, up from the 5,000 allocated during 2020. But Toyota could probably sell even more.
When we go with the RAV4 Prime, we’ve found it to be one of the best all-around balancing enough electric range for travel, 38 mpg as a hybrid, and powerful performance. Plus, it’s still a RAV4, one of the most popular vehicles in the US
Ford also reports that the fully electric Mach-E is moving fast from many dealerships – and the company’s initial sales figures are in line with the 25,000 to 30,000 sales per year it had previously shown. The automaker said the Mach-E crossover averaged only seven days at dealer lots at the end of March, but the crossover was not on the list of the 20 fastest-selling cars.
The arrival of the all-electric Volkswagen ID.4 doesn’t appear to be slowing down the pace of demand and deliveries for the RAV4 Prime. VW said the ID.4 would target mass-market crossovers like the RAV4, rather than Tesla or any other EV.
Now the question becomes, can Toyota sell more RAV4 Primes than the US allocated? Based on what we see here, we think so.
2022 Toyota RAV4 Release Date
If you qualify for a $ 7500 electric vehicle tax credit, the RAV4 Prime is nothing to think about, as government financial incentives lower its price substantially – and you get a RAV4 with more power and a significant electric dedicated driving distance.
Of the two Prime models, the XSE is packed with more standard features, including 19-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, and an infotainment system with a larger 9.0-inch screen. If you don’t qualify for the tax credit, we’d recommend the XLE Hybrid, which offers more standard equipment than the basic LE without experiencing much of a price increase.
XLE buyers will enjoy conveniences such as passive keyless entry, power-adjustable driver’s seat, auto high-beam LED projector headlamps, heated exterior mirrors, blind-spot monitoring, and front fog lamps.
The Toyota RAV4 2022 does not have an official release date, but we are expecting a summer sale date of 2021 based on the previous release schedule.
2022 Toyota RAV4 Price
RAV4 2022 price is also not available. With no major changes in workmanship, we expect the MSRP to stay close to the current model priced at $ 27,225 to $ 37,155 (including destination costs).
