2022 Toyota 4Runner Interior the Toyota 4Runner 2022 is one of the roughest medium-sized SUVs on the market, but also one of the oldest and least refined.
While the sturdy body-on-frame construction and off-road-oriented options make it seriously able to when the road ends and enhance its outdoor image.
The plasticky interior and inefficient V-6 engine are prominent weaknesses.
Toyota has modernized this ancient four-wheel with an impressive amount of standard assistance and infotainment features.
4Runner also has large cargo space, and its spacious cabin can be equipped with a small third row.
Awkward on-road driving behavior and high price tags make the 2022 4Runner less desirable than most other popular competitors.
But it remains a viable alternative to Jeep Wrangler — Another vehicle where off-road meat takes precedence over daily repairs.
The latest 4Runner adds a new limited-production Trail Edition for 2022.
Toyota says it will only build 4000 copies, which are based on the basic SR5 model and are equipped with rear or four-wheel drive.
Trail Edition is equipped with 17-inch dark gray TRD wheels and black exterior badges.
Inside, he had a black chair with brown stitches and an all-weather mat.
The 2022 Toyota 4Runner Concept also receives new standard LED lights, and the TRD Pro model gets some unique improvements: the new Lunar Rock exterior color, the newly designed black TRD wheels wrapped in Nitto Terra Grappler tires, and the returned damper that Toyota says is intended to increase isolation when driving at the footpath.

The interior of the 4Runner is not what you call sophisticated, with switchgear that could originate in the last years of the last millennium.
In addition to the material and style that is less attractive, he succeeded in fitting in front of and behind humans, regardless of the size of the interior class.
We haven’t tested the optional third row, but we suspect it’s the best for children.
A flexible cargo area and several large and deep cubbies in the front row means that the 4Runner is a versatile carrier like a rock crawler.
Just don’t try to lift anything into the cargo room unless you have a chiropractor ready to be called – the floor is uncomfortable on the ground.
The two-line model we tested had an optional cargo withdrawal deck designed to make loading and unloading heavy goods – up to 440 pounds – a little easier.
It can also double as a tailgate for seating. This provides a flat payload floor when the second-row seats are folded, but also robs cargo space as high as several inches.
Even so, we fulfill an impressive 14 carry behind the second row.
Every Toyota 4runner interior has an 8.0-inch touch screen infotainment system. The interface includes a set of physical buttons as well as play volume and tuning buttons.
The system, called Entune, comes standard with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspots.
The built-in navigation system and JBL 15-speaker audio system are available enhancements.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Engine
The 4.0 liter 4Runner VR6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission can work together with the rear, four or all-wheel drive.
The entry-level SR5 model is a rear-wheel drive, while all other trims except the Limited top-tipping model come with four-wheel drive part-time to choose from.
These models have a two-speed transfer case that can be selected manually with a low range setting.
The limited model has a full-time all-wheel drive with a Torsen center differential that can split torque to the front or rear wheels as needed, depending on road conditions and which wheels have traction.
In our tests, the mid-level 4Runner TRD Off-Road model provided compliant acceleration, the V-6 of its old school making a sound with a rough exhaust note.
Although Toyota feels in action, its performance is right accompanied by more modern competitors, including the V-6 Dodge Durango.
And Toyota’s sturdy frame and torque-rich engine give it traction; 5,000-pound capacity defeated Ford Edge and Wrangler while falling below the stronger 8700-pound Durango limit.
2022 Toyota 4Runner MPG
The 4Runner powertrain combination shows their age at the pump. While neither Toyota nor EPA has released fuel-saving ratings for the 2022 ranks, we don’t expect the figures to be significantly different from the previous year’s model.
Every 2020 4Runner is rated 16 mpg low in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. Other competitors have the same city rank but are much better on the highway.
Even so, 4Runner failed to meet its small EPA highway ratings during our 200-mile real-world testing, producing 19 mpg on the highway (1 mpg less than advertised).
That puts Toyota behind the middle-class SUV with the Wrangler who also focuses off the road.
2022 Toyota 4Runner Price
Toyota hasn’t released an official price for 4Runner 2022, but we hope it will be announced before it goes on sale this fall.
While we expect a small price increase across the entire range of models, we still think TRD Off-Road is what will be obtained.
It can’t afford to be off-road like lifting a TRD Pro, but a much lower price makes it a better value. It comes standard with 270-hp V-6, automatic transmission, and traditional four-wheel drive.
In addition to some TRD-specific exterior and interior bits, TRD Off-Road gets equipment that helps justify its name. This includes the rear differential which locks electronically for maximum traction in slippery or muddy conditions.
It also has a selectable drive mode (called Multi-Terrain Select and Crawl Control) that can change SUVs’ powertrain behavior to accommodate various driving scenarios.
We chose the optional Kinetic Dynamic Suspension, which enables improved wheel articulation during off-road action.
We will also choose rear sliding cargo decks, which facilitate the removal of heavy cargo and even provide tailgate seating.
