Torque News has revealed some of the latest news about one of Toyota’s most popular and beloved models.
Toyota 4 Runners. Some trim levels will be discontinued and replaced with new ones. Look for Toyota to leave the Nightshade Special Edition and the Venture Special Edition for the 2022 4Runner model year. Toyota plans to replace it with something completely new. Something that is still unknown and unknown.
Look for an official announcement in the coming weeks. However, for now, we can only sit back and wait for what will happen next. I’m excited for the new 4Runner class next year, but I’m sad to see Nightshade gone too. This is one of my favorite 4Runner trims.
2022 Toyota 4runner Nightshade
The 4Runner Nightshade was introduced to the market for the 2019 model year as a sporty alternative to the 4Runner Limited. The 4Runner Venture Edition Special is brought to market for the 2020 model year. This one appeals to outdoor enthusiasts and offers versatility.
You can see it from afar with the roof basket above and the cool TRD wheels. The Venture is also equipped with off-road equipment such as locking rear differential, crawl control and multi-terrain selection.
I recently wrote a Torque News story in which I predicted a retail market launch for the 2022 4Runner. I hope you’ll start seeing it at your local Toyota dealer sometime in September-October.
It will be interesting to see what happens next for the Toyota 4Runner. I didn’t think it would be completely redesigned for 2022, but I was wrong before.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a familiar value pop up in the 4Runner lineup at some point. Something, say, like the newly announced new Woodland Edition for the 2022 Sienna. Or maybe the 4Runner XSE.
Maybe not 4Runner Woodland. My Magic 8 Ball suggests “all signs are showing no” for that scenario.

Will The 2021 Toyota 4runner Be Redesigned
When will Toyota redesign its favorite 4 Runner car? What happens if I change it to? These are two very timely and relevant questions. The Toyota 4Runner hasn’t been adopted since the 2010 4Runner, so it definitely needs a redesign. This is the 11th year in a row. In fact, Toyota’s longest stretch is not without new body styling. Look at the tundra.
There haven’t been any major design changes since 2007. Fans are looking forward to the upcoming 2022 Tundra, which has been completely overhauled. This leads to 4Runner and its “near future” plans. It’s natural to wonder what the next step is for the fan-favorite Toyota 4Runner. After all, this is one of the last true SUVs on the planet. The chassis-mounted body design can withstand tough terrain and obstacles. It is one of the heaviest vehicles on the market.
But we all know that it’s time for a change soon. The problem is that you don’t know where you are. There’s too much emotion here. herefore, we must ask ourselves. Interesting place. I’ve been hearing about three “four-runner redesigns” from various sources over the past two months. Other automakers say they know the 4Runner will be redesigned for the 2025 model. The new Toyota 4Runner 2023 is on display. But recently I heard from two Toyota sources predicting that the 2022 model will be a sixth-generation 4Runner.
Are you as confused as I am now? For Toyota, the highly anticipated launch of the two next-generation models is an obvious strategy. Let’s talk about creating hype. Exaggeration is strong. If you love Toyota trucks and SUVs, it’s great to have the new Toyota Tundra and 4Runner together. The fact that Toyota hasn’t revealed any details about the new 4Runner doesn’t necessarily dismiss this speculation as true.
Toyota is yet to talk about the next-generation 2022 tundra and that will continue until the end of the year. Come early. Look at the history and precedents. Toyota didn’t release the 2010 5th generation 4Runner in September 2009. There aren’t many windows out there. I can also deny the truth, saying that lack of news means no news. 2022 Toyota 4Runner can be taken over from 2021. Very likely. In fact, this is probably the most likely scenario.

The Toyota 4Runner is designed with body-on-frame construction, which is unique from most other SUVs. This means the body is mounted on a relatively rigid frame. Therefore, 4Runner excels in off-road where your vehicle often faces uneven, rocky, and difficult terrain. It also performs well in transporting your toys such as boats, camping, and trailers. 2022 Toyota 4runner spy shots have a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
The powertrain consists of a 4.0L V6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 278 lb.-ft. torque is combined with a 5-speed automatic transmission. It is available exclusively with automatic transmissions because manuals are not an option at this time.

Although it is very popular among SUV owners, one of the main criticisms for the Toyota 4Runner 2019 is the need for improved security and technology. Just like the Toyota Tacoma 2022, the 4Runner 2022 will receive several security enhancements and useful multimedia.
For people who care about safety, the Toyota Safety Sense-P (Pedestrian) will be added to all trim levels of the Toyota 2022 4Runner.
Toyota also added Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa for the 2022 model 4Runner. Expect standard SiriusXM on all 4Runner trim levels too. Toyota made SiriusXM a standard feature on all levels of each model as a whole in the summer of 2022.

Toyota continues to gain a reputation for strong compatibility and completing its entire product line. Clean the exterior with a flowing aerodynamic line. Interior with high scale components and the final result suitable for luxury and sportiness.
However, just like every new generation of every model, the time has come to modernize the exterior and inside of the Toyota 4Runner. The “Toyota 4Runners” forum has some very practical and useful ideas and suggestions
Turbo Diesel or at least the V8 option (definitely need more power). Lockers in front and back. Solid front axle. I also wouldn’t mind a remote start, a / c cooler seat on the Off-Road model. I also like my manual shifters for my 4wheel drive on the road (I don’t want buttons or buttons but that might just be me).
More power, better mpg, removable doors and top, greater A / T tire options, LED lighting, better infotainment system, all window buttons down, more USB ports, apple car games, shelves better roof, cool DRL, better suspension
As we know, it is very unlikely that the newly redesigned Toyota 4Runner will be able to accommodate all these brilliant update ideas. But, it will be interesting to see when the time comes what they finally use.
2022 Toyota 4runner Hybrid
As far as we know the 2022 Toyota 4runner Hybrid is still not official information from Toyota. 2022 Toyota 4runner Despite being the oldest statesman in the midsize SUV segment, the 2022 Toyota 4Runner is the only one left that is as solid as advertised. It may look pretty much the same as it did 10 years ago, but the boxy fenders and high beltline still look tough.
That image is matched by the sturdy ladder frame and sturdy V-6 engine, which is great for tackling trails, especially with the various off-road-ready models of the lineup, but not so great for refinement and fuel economy. The 4Runner’s tall, boxy shape contributes to a large cabin and cargo area, but the materials inside look and feel cheap.
Is There A Toyota 4runner Hybrid, Toyota makes up for the old age of the popular off-roader with a range of standard driver assistance, including adaptive cruise control and lane maintenance assistance. Still, that’s not enough to make the 2022 4Runner as contemporary or desirable as the latest Jeep Wrangler.
For 2022, the 4Runner family welcomes the new TRD Sport model, which for a long time was only offered to its pickup partner, the Toyota Tacoma. The 4Runner TRD Sport isn’t as sporty as its 20-inch wheels, hood scoop and Sport badge suggest, but unlike most other models except the more luxurious Limited, it has adaptive dampers designed to improve body control. Inside, the TRD Sport features faux leather upholstery instead of fabric. All 2022 4Runners now light the way with LED spotlights.
2022 Toyota 4runner Trd Pro
This new version of the 4Runner features a TRD hood scoop and hydraulically linked adaptive dampers from Toyota, uses 20-inch wheels, and will go on sale in late summer.

The 2022 Toyota 4Runner adds a road-focused TRD (Toyota Racing Development) Sport model to its lineup, which is already available on the mid-size Tacoma pickup, but is less sporty. It will be available in late summer, but those who want a more off-road capable 4Runners can still opt for the TRD Off Road or TRD Pro models.
The 4Runner TRD Sport is very similar to the more luxurious Limited model, and uses the same 20-inch alloy wheels but with dark gray accents. They are equipped with all season tires. It will be placed just above the base model SR5 in the 4Runner lineup, and is available with rear-wheel drive or four with a two-speed transfer case like the Limited. TRD Sports added a TRD hood scoop, front spoiler, body color trim and black roof rails. And the TRD Sport badge is placed on the C pillar.
The new 4Runner variant will have synthetic leather upholstery instead of cloth (Limited models get leather upholstery), and the headrests have an embroidered TRD logo. The front seats are heated, and there are TRD shifters and TRD Sport floor mats. Each 4Runner comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa capabilities.
All 4Runners are powered by a 4.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. The body-on-frame SUV has coil-spring rear suspension, but the TRD Sport models get Toyota’s X-REAS adaptive dampers (also standard on the Limited) that hydraulically connect at opposite corners to reduce pitch and roll. 4Runner can withdraw 5,000 pounds.
We expect that the starting price of the 2022 Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport will drop between the $37,940 rear-wheel-drive SR5 model and the Limited’s $46,845 starting price. There should be plenty of color options available too, as the Tacoma TRD Sport is available in nine colors including Voodoo Blue and Army Green.
2022 Toyota 4runner Redesign
2022 Toyota 4runner Limited Redesign, The new TRD Sport model is the biggest change for the 2022 Toyota 4Runner as the vintage SUV enters its next model year.
While the existing TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro models emphasize off-road capability, the TRD Sport was designed with road driving in mind, according to a Toyota press release. The new model gets a Cross-Linked Relative Absorber System (X-REAS) suspension from the 4Runner Limited trim level. That’s a nice way of saying that it has adaptive dampers and a central controller designed to minimize pitch and yaw.
The TRD Sport still retains the off-road capabilities incorporated into the base 4Runner platform. It is available with rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, the latter including a 2-speed transfer case. Even the rear-wheel drive models have a ground clearance of 9.0 inches, while the four-wheel drive models have a ground clearance of 9.6 inches.
TRD Sport adds colored exterior trim, 20-inch alloy wheels with Dark Gray accents, hood scoop and black roof rails. For 2022, all 4Runner models also get LED headlights (high beam and low beam) and fog lamps.
Inside, the TRD Sport features faux leather upholstery with contrasting gray stitching, the TRD logo on the front headrests. TRD Sport floor mat, TRD shifter and heated front seats.
All 4Runner models use the same 4.0-liter V-6 engine, producing 270 hp and 278 lb-ft of torque. The engine is coupled to a 5-speed automatic transmission, and rear-wheel drive models get a standard limited-slip differential. Toyota cites a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.
The 2022 Toyota 4Runner should reach dealerships later this year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
2022 Toyota 4runner Colors
How does the Toyota 4Runner look in lime, you ask? Well, we may soon find out the answer.
Rumors have been circulating among Toyota for months about a potential lime or yellowish TRD Pro color for 2022. Of course nothing has been confirmed but interestingly we got this info from online media torquenews. It looks like this speculation might prove to be true.
Toyota released a teaser image last week showing the bright lime yellow Tacoma trim level (along with another unnamed grade). The truck on the right is actually rendered in something resembling chalk or yellow, but not too much of the paint is exposed.
A true seducer. It makes us talk and builds internet chat. This could potentially be the color for the 2022 4Runner TRD Pro. Well, and Tacoma and Tundra and Sequoia too. How do Toyota 4Runner owners and fans feel about driving the lime 4Runner?

I remember when Lunar Rock was announced as a Toyota TRD Pro color last summer. Many people liked it right away, although there were many naysayers who believed it was a bad choice. Too close to the Cement color (which was the previous TRD Pro color), they say.
As it turns out, Lunar Rock has proven to be very challenging to find for many potential buyers. A big hit. In fact, many people are still on the waiting list to get one, and they are worried they will miss out.

An official release date hasn’t been announced yet, but Toyota’s ordering guide is expected to be released in the fall of 2021.
